Bella wanted a make-over since she switched to WordPress…and keeping with her vampy theme, she asked for a dark, vamped “real” girl. The hardest part, was the search for the perfect stock girl. This is usually the case with me, because a stock image isn’t just about the girl…it’s about the pose, whether her head is cropped, etc. Here is the before, middle and after. Bella picked up the works, with the Best-Seller package and an extra avatar and graphics. See the live version here. More images and fun...

Custom Blog Design & Matching Header for Consuming Worlds. To be honest, when some clients tell me what they want…I get scared. Mainly because I’m thinking, “how am I going to do that and still make it look good?” Not that it is a crazy idea or anything, more because it is outside of my comfort zone or usual design scope. On the Consuming Worlds design, I was a bit out of my usual design scope. I haven’t done any “foodie” type blogs…but I have done a few fantasy blogs…so this was a mix between the two. Here is what was requested:  The general idea I am going for is a cupcake, eating a book with my avatar riding on top. Technically I would like two of these designed. I have decided to split my blog into two separating my food and book blog, so I will need an avatar for both of my blogs. I decided to go with a vintage bakery theme. I actually worked on the logo first. Which translated into all of the design elements. Then the cupcake and avatar. Which is what I was worried about the most. I didn’t want to make her look silly sitting on the cupcake. Or that she didn’t belong. All images then were designed to match the vintage bakery theme, including the design that would be used for her food blog.   See the live version...
Lizzy's Dark Creation

Lizzy's Dark Creation

The Blog Design for Lizzy’s Dark Fiction had a very specific spec’d out idea process. Lizzy wanted a warrior female, with red hair, in a pose like she had just thrown a spear. The spear should be embedded in a “bad” book on the other side of the design. Lizzy wanted a dark feel to the design, to go with her “Dark Fiction” theme. The creation process began with two sketches: While I was pleased with these sketches, I wasn’t totally satisfied, there was something wrong. The girls looked like they were stabbing, not throwing. So, I went back to the drawing board and began looking up images of people throwing spears. Their final pose usually ended with the arm raised and forward and covering the face. Since most avatars are the central focal point of the design, the face usually compelling the reader to feel an emotion…I couldn’t hide her face. I switched to Lizzy The Impaler instead of Lizzy the Spear Thrower. I told Lizzy to imagine a spear in her hand. She came back with that she looks like she is standing like the Little Caesar guy…um Pizza Pizza? Boots and a different color cloak will make it this a winner…and it did. Add some steampunk elements to this bad warrior chick and it is sealed up nicely.  One part done. Now for the rest of the design. Each little piece was put together to match the girl. A warrior, she had to take out bad books. At first I placed her in the woods, with a smokey feel — but it didn’t work. The books weren’t...
